Why DukPdf is different
iLovePDF is a capable cloud PDF service. DukPdf is different at the architecture level: every tool runs inside your browser using WebAssembly, so your files never travel over the network. There is nothing for us to store, log, or leak — there are no server uploads at all. That also means DukPdf keeps working when you are offline, and there is no account to create before you get started.
Why professionals don't upload sensitive documents
Reputable cloud tools like iLovePDFdelete your file after a short retention window — but during processing your document still sits on a third party's server. For most documents that's fine. For a bank statement, a medical record, or a privileged legal file, “deleted in a couple of hours” still means it left your control.
The risk is real enough that in March 2025 the FBI warned that some free online file-converter sites push malware and harvest the documents people upload — names, Social Security numbers, and banking details. Document services get breached too: a 2021 leak exposed roughly 77 million Nitro PDF user records. DukPdf removes that entire category of risk: with no server uploads, there is no third-party server to trust, intercept, or breach.
Don't take our word for it — verify it
Open your browser's developer tools (right-click → Inspect → Network tab), then merge or compress a PDF on DukPdf. You'll see zero upload requests — the file is read and processed entirely on your device. With a cloud tool, the same Network tab shows your document being uploaded to a remote server.
Built for confidential work
If you work in law, healthcare, or finance, “where did this file go?” isn't a hypothetical — it's a compliance question. Because DukPdf never transmits your file, there is no third-party processor to vet and no data-transfer surface to manage.
- Legal: redact privileged documentswithout putting them on someone else's server.
- Healthcare: OCR scanned records while protected health information stays on your machine.
- Finance: merge statements and reports with no customer data leaving the device.
