What's the difference between real redaction and a black box?

A black box is a visual rectangle drawn over text. The original characters remain in the file and can be copied or extracted. True redaction removes the underlying text entirely so there is nothing to recover.

Is the redaction permanent?

Yes. Each redacted page is re-rendered as an image with the content burned out, and the original text objects are removed from the PDF. The redaction cannot be reversed from the output file.

Can I redact specific words across the whole document?

Yes. Use the search-and-redact mode to find and remove every occurrence of a name, account number, or other sensitive string across all pages in one pass.

Is the unredacted PDF uploaded?
