Why use this tool

DukPdf’s PDF to Image tool renders PDF pages as image files in your browser, and lets you choose the format rather than deciding for you. Pick JPG when you want small files and the page is mostly photographic, or PNG when the page is text, tables or line art and you want edges to stay exact. The difference is real: JPG spends its bytes on a quality dial (this tool starts it at 92%), while PNG has no dial at all — every pixel is stored exactly, which is why its files run several times larger. Everything else works the same either way: select pages, choose Normal (150 DPI) or High (300 DPI), set a per-image size target from 50KB to 2MB if a form demands one, and multi-page results arrive as a ZIP. The size target adapts to the format — JPG lowers quality before dimensions, PNG can only render smaller — so the same 200KB cap produces a slightly softer JPG but a slightly smaller PNG. Which format should I choose?

JPG for photographic pages and whenever file size matters — it is several times smaller. PNG for text, tables, diagrams and screenshots, because it is lossless and leaves no compression halos around dark text. If you are genuinely unsure, convert one page each way and compare at full zoom; the difference shows fastest around small type.

What is the difference in file size?

PNG is typically several times larger than JPG for the same page, and the gap widens on photo-heavy pages. A typical text page runs about 190KB as a Normal-quality PNG versus a fraction of that as JPG. That size buys pixel-exact reproduction.

How does the size target work?

Set a per-image cap between 50KB and 2MB and the tool searches for the best version that fits it. The lever differs by format: JPG steps quality down first and dimensions only after, while PNG — having no quality setting — renders the page at smaller dimensions until it fits. Pages already under the cap are exported untouched.

Can I convert some pages to JPG and others to PNG?

Not in one pass — the format applies to the whole run. Convert the pages you want as JPG, then run the rest as PNG using the page selector; unselected pages are never rendered, so the second pass costs only its own pages.

What resolution do I get?

Normal renders at 150 DPI for screen use; High renders at 300 DPI for print. The setting applies to both formats, and the renderer caps any image at 8192 pixels on its longest side — about 700 DPI on an A4 page.

How do multi-page results arrive?

As a single ZIP, with one image per page in page order. Convert several PDFs at once and each gets its own folder inside the ZIP, so a 500-page batch does not bury your Downloads folder in loose files.

Are my PDFs uploaded during conversion?

No. Rendering runs in your browser with PDF.js and a canvas. There are zero upload requests carrying your file.
