PDF to PNG — questions

Should I pick PNG or JPG?

PNG for text, tables, diagrams and screenshots — anything with hard edges or flat colour. JPG for photographic pages, or whenever file size matters more than perfect edges. PNG files are typically several times larger for the same page.

Why are the PNG files so much bigger?

PNG is lossless: it records every pixel rather than approximating them. That is exactly why text stays crisp, and exactly why the file grows. A photo-heavy page shows the biggest difference.

Do the PNGs have a transparent background?

No — pages render on a solid white background, matching how the PDF looks in a reader. A PDF page normally does not paint its own background, so leaving it transparent would produce images that vanish against a dark backdrop.

What resolution do I get?

Normal renders at 150 DPI, which suits screens and most everyday use. High renders at 300 DPI for print. Both are lossless at whatever resolution you choose.

Can I convert only some pages?

Yes. Enter page numbers (1, 3, 7) or ranges (3-5, 8-12) and everything else is skipped.

Are my PDFs uploaded during conversion?
