Compress PDF to 200KB

How to Compress PDF

1

Add your PDF

Click “Select files” or drag PDFs in. The 200KB target is already selected on this page — nothing to configure first.

2

Check the target

200KB is preselected in the Target size row. Switch to another size, or back to “No limit”, if your form asks for something else. The quality presets grey out while a target is active because the target decides quality.

3

Compress and download

Click “Compress PDF”. Each file is compressed against 200KB on its own and the result list shows its size before and after.

Every step runs in your browser. No server uploads, no waiting.

Why use this tool

This page compresses your PDF to 200KB or less — the single most searched-for document size limit. The 200KB applies to the whole file, not to each page: one PDF in, one PDF under 200KB out. DukPdf starts at its recommended quality and steps down only as far as your file requires, so a light file keeps high quality and a heavy one trades just enough to fit. A text document almost always lands far below the limit. A scanned document depends on its length: a few scanned pages typically fit, while a very long or image-dense scan may stop just short — the result list shows every file’s size before and after, so there is no guessing. If you need each page as its own small image instead of one small PDF, use PDF to JPG under 200KB. For the background on how PDF compression works, see the compress PDF guide.

When you'd use this

Government portal uploads

Tax, visa and registration portals commonly cap document uploads at 200KB. This page is built around exactly that ceiling.

University applications

Admission portals that accept one PDF per document — transcript, certificate, statement — usually allow 200KB each.

Job site documents

Resume plus certificates as a single attachment under the recruiter portal’s limit, with the text still crisp.

Scanned receipts and forms

A phone-scanned form of a few pages compresses under 200KB with the writing still legible for the reviewer.

Compress PDF — questions

Is 200KB for the whole PDF or per page?

The whole file. Every page stays in the document; DukPdf compresses images, fonts and structure until the complete PDF fits under 200KB. If a form wants each page as a separate small image instead, use PDF to JPG under 200KB, which measures per page.

Will my PDF still be readable at 200KB?

Text is never rasterized — it stays real, selectable text at any compression level, so a report or letter is unaffected. What gives way under a tight target is image detail: photos and scans are re-encoded at lower resolution first.

What if my file cannot reach 200KB?

You still get the smallest version the engine could produce, and the result list shows its exact size next to the original’s. Very long scans and PDFs built from already-compressed photos are the usual culprits. Splitting the document with Split PDF and compressing the parts is the reliable fallback.

Does compressing to 200KB delete any pages?

No. Page count, page order and text content are untouched. The size comes out of image resolution, font subsetting and internal structure — not out of content.

Is my PDF uploaded to compress it?

No. Compression runs in your browser via a Rust engine compiled to WebAssembly. Open DevTools → Network while compressing — zero upload requests carry your file.

Can I compress several PDFs to 200KB at once?

Yes. Each file is measured against the 200KB target separately, so a batch gives you one under-200KB file per input, not one combined file.
